It’s hard to believe that we’re more than half way through 2018 already. Not sure if it has to do with me turning 50 earlier this year but time definitely seems to be speeding up 😉
I met with my own team last week to review our 2018 goals and get super focused on our core priorities for the next 6 months. It’s great business practice to take some time out to review what the current wins are and what’s not working and then to build on some lessons learned to make the second half of the year super effective.
This time though I found myself approaching the second half of 2018 in a different way and I wanted to share the question that got me laser focused and fired up for the next 6 months.
Here’s the thing – I’m a naturally positive person and I really enjoy visioning, goal setting and clarifying priorities for the coming months. But I was also starting to notice a level of frustration creeping in when I could see we were kicking around the same old goals that we honestly hadn’t made a lot of progress on…
So here’s the question I asked myself instead.
When I get to the end of 2018 and look back, what will I be truly p***ed off about if I still haven’t achieved it?
Yep – not the most elegant question for sure but I can promise you that the answers gave me instant clarity on what need to be the highest priorities for us in the next 6 months.
It also meant that we had to defer a couple of projects until we nail our core priorities. It’s freed up so much energy and clarity that I’m now super excited for the next 6 months (where previously I was honestly starting to feel a little overwhelmed).
